Dr. Heather Estopinal

Dr. Heather Estopinal is a native of Sikeston, Missouri. After graduating from high school as valedictorian, she attended the University of Virginia, where she was an Echol’s scholar and graduated with a degree in Mathematics. She served as an officer in the United States Air Force prior to attending medical school.  During her time in the Air Force, she took courses at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland. Dr. Estopinal graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans, number one in her class. She received the Kornberg Award for scholarship in Medical Biochemistry, the G. John Buddingh Microbiology Award, and the Urban Maes award for outstanding student in general surgery, and the Luis Perez Award for outstanding medical student in ophthalmology. She then completed her internship and residency in ophthalmology at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson Mississippi.

She was married to Charles Temple Estopinal in 1987. They attended medical school together at LSUMC, graduating in 1994. He is an anesthesiologist in Huntsville, AL. They have 4 children.

Dr. Estopinal is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and a member of the Christian Ophthalmology Society. She serves on the board of KenyaRelief.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to the principals that one person can make a difference. She is also a member of AOA medical honor society and she holds a medical license in Alabama and Mississippi.

 

 

Dr. John B. Cox

    dr.cox  A native Mississippian, Dr. John Cox completed his undergraduate work at Delta State University with a double major in mathematics and chemistry before attending the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson.  He graduated early and was able to practice as a family practitioner in Hollandale, Mississippi before receiving his diploma in June 1973.

     After two years of training in internal medicine, Dr. Cox began a three year ophthalmology training program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He remained on the staff there for another year and completed further training in strabismus surgery at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida.

     Dr. Cox currently serves as treasurer of the Christian Ophthalmology Society and is chairman for the Institutional Review Committee at Huntsville Hospital.  His past appointments have included being President of the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology, Director of the North Alabama Eye Bank, President of the Alabama Eye Injury Registry, Councillor for the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and served on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology for many years.
